The HDW-F900 utilizes a three 2.2 Mega Pixel FIT CCD and comes equipped with various gamma curves for superior imaging. The camcorder records images in accordance with the CIF (Common Image Format) standard, which specifies a sampling structure of 1920 x 1080 active pixels (horizontal x vertical).

It can also record 12 channels of audio at 24-bit per sample resolution, and can play back HDCAM tapes. It records a 1080-line input signal at 23.98, 25, 25, 29.97 and 30 frames/second in Progressive Segmented Frame format, and at 50 and 59.94 field/second, in Interlace format.
